Thursday, Aug. 1
5:43 a.m. – A resident on Sand Pointe Drive was doing online surveys for a company called G. Systems Corp. out of New Jersey. She received a check in the mail for her services and cashed it at her bank. The check bounced due to insufficient funds, causing her account to be overdrawn.
12:55 p.m. – Richard Wangberg, his eyes red and watery, staggered down Hiller Road. Each step was a triumph over the forces of gravity, which were conspiring to bring Mr. Wangberg down. He valiantly trudged on, but his unsteady nature drew the attention of concerned citizens. Deputies were dispatched to check on Mr. Wangberg, who had slurred speech and a heavy odor of alcohol. He was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication and booked into the county jail.
Friday, Aug. 2
8:25 a.m. – Someone found narcotics and turned them over to the Sheriff’s Office.
10:20 a.m. – A family was vacationing along Patrick’s Point Drive. Two brothers got into a physical fight. Deputies were summoned.
9:30 p.m. – A vehicle was burglarized at Baker Beach near Trinidad.
Sunday, Aug. 4
1:36 p.m. – Two ladies, who happen to be roommates, walked into Central Station. They started drinking. Then they drank some more and started arguing. This escalated into a physical fight. The women then went to their home on First Avenue, where the fighting continued. Drunk himself, the brother of one of the females got involved in the fight. Humboldt’s professional peace-keepers were summoned to the scene to help sort things out. The occupants of the house were too drunk to remember what the fight was about or who started it.
6 a.m. – Christopher Wixson passed two counterfeit $50 bills at Cher-Ae Heights Casino. Mr. Wixson said he didn’t know that the bills were fakes and reimbursed the casino.
8:50 a.m. – A resident on Sunnygrove Avenue lost a purse.
12:57 p.m. – Jerry Bachus was yelling and screaming at people and cars at the McKinleyville Shopping Center. Sheriff’s deputies arrested Mr. Bachus on suspicion of public intoxication and violating his probation and booked him into the county jail.
7:02 p.m. – A vehicle parked near the Hammond Bridge had its window smashed out. The thief got away with musical instruments.
7:53 p.m. – There was a smash-and-grab vehicle burglary at the Luffenholtz Beach parking lot.
Monday, Aug. 5
7:54 p.m. – A skunk was wandering around near North Coast Children’s Services on Hiller Road. It exhibited symptoms consistent with rabies. A deputy put the animal down.
Tuesday, Aug. 6
6:52 a.m. – In the 1300 block of Silverado Avenue, Sheriff’s deputies and the Humboldt County Drug Task Force served a search warrant on a commercial marijuana growing operation.
2:55 p.m. – Someone at Redwood Trails resort near Stone Lagoon reported a case of credit card fraud.
2:56 p.m. – On Travis Court a resident discovered that someone drilled a hole in a gas cap in an attempt to siphon fuel.
4:24 p.m. – A resident at the Ocean West Senior Village on Murray Road discovered a laptop computer and a backpack that had been thrown over a fence.
