Rape case began on Arcata Plaza

More details were released last week by the Sheriff’s Office about a reported rape and the arrest of a suspect on July 14.

According to Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Knight, the rape took place in mid-June, but wasn’t reported to the Sheriff’s Department by the victim until July 13. Detectives conducted an investigation and, the next day, arrested David Bernard Anderson, 41, of McKinleyville on suspicion of rape, pandering, making criminal threats, kidnapping and having unlawful intercourse with a minor.

According to Knight, the female victim met Anderson on the Arcata Plaza in mid-June. She voluntarily got into his vehicle. Anderson drove off and, according to the victim, raped her in the car at an undisclosed location. A month later she reported the rape.

Anderson was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility. As of last week, he was still being held. No other details were available.
