The McKinleyville Senior Center’s new group is off and running, or should I say walking. The walking group meets on Wednesday and Friday mornings.
Call the Center to find out where and times they meet. According to Naomi Meyer, the leader of this pack, the Joggin Shop in Arcata will give a discount on shoes if you are part of the group. Talk with Naomi to find out the specifics and magic words to tell the Joggin Shop.
This Thursday the mini meal will be macaroni and cheese with bread for $2. The meal starts at 11 a.m. and continues until 1 p.m. or whenever the food runs out. (Last week’s tacos and beans were a big success). Check the Centerline calendar for each weeks menu or call the center at 839-0191.
The Low Vision Support Group has given come up with a group name. They are calling the group the Bumpers. The Bumpers will not meet the last Friday of May due to the center being closed in honor of Memorial Day. Watch the Press for information on June’s Bumper meeting. This group is not only for the visually impaired but also families of visually impaired people. They offer resources and information to help those with low vision be able to navigate through their lives.
Don’t forget the plant sale is still going on. Every time I hesitate and think about a plant I would like to purchase someone else buys it. The selection changes daily.
Did you know that May is National Senior Month? It was established in 1963 by JFK. Jimmy Carter renamed it in 1980. It is a time to honor those and to acknowledge the contributions they have made, especially those who have defended our country. It’s also a good time to come check out the McKinleyville Senior Center to see what we are all about.
If you weren’t able to attend the Fraud and Scam workshop that was offered by Area 1 Agency on Aging held here at the Center you will have another opportunity on May 16 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Arcata Senior Center, Call HICAP at 444-3000 for more information.
