McK MATTERS: Jenkins receives scholarship; gymkhana results released

awarded a $20,000 scholarship from the Ford Family Foundation.

Jenkins is the the daughter of Jim and Michelle Henson of Redding and Kevin Jenkins of McKinleyville.

Danielle Jenkins, who now lives in Redding, plans to attend Chico State University and major in speech and communication disorders.

McKinleyville Rodeo Assoc. releases gymkhana results

The McKinleyville Rodeo Association  (MRA) helped put the “pony” in Pony Express Days during the weekend of June 1 and June 2.

The MRA held a gymkhana and the Mckinleyville Rodeo Grounds as part of its Gymkhana Summer Series. The following are the results of the two-day event:

The next gymkhana is June 22 and June 23 at the rodeo grounds, located at the end of Kjer Road.

Clam Chowder Cook-Off Results

On Wednesday, May 29, the McKinleyville Chamber of Commerce held its annual Clam Chowder Cook-Off as part of Pony Express Days. Blue Lake Casino won for the professional category and he McKinleyville Soroptimists won in the amateur category.

Pancake Breakfast at Dow’s Grange

Dow’s Prairie Grange will hold its monthly pancake breakfast on June 15th from 9 am to noon.  The large breakfast is $5 and the small breakfast is $3. The monthly flea market also begins at 9 am and runs through 4 p.m.  Community members interested in having a table at the flea market need to call BJ in advance at 840-9878.  The breakfast and the flea market are held on the 3rd Saturday of each month.

Also upcoming at the Grange on June 28, local historian Jerry Rohde will present an evening program called “High Seas” which focuses on naval malfeasance on the shores of Samoa and other episodes of harbor life in Humboldt.  His program is being sponsored again by Pierson’s and Dow’s Prairie Grange.
