Book Sale

on Saturday

The Friends of the McKinleyville Library Second Saturday Book Sale is back.  Come to the sale near the Totem Pole on Aug. 10 from 1 p.m. to  4 p.m.  The Friends have loads of newly donated fiction books. The organization recently received a nice group of large print books.  In the non-fiction category there is an expanded home & garden section and the Friends are offering all art & music books, sheet music, musical scores at half-price.

Take a look at the $2/bag books outside the store in the McKinleyville Shopping Center.  Donations of books in good condition may be brought to the sale site during sale times or to the Library during open hours. Space and other factors limit the donations the Friends can accept. Please do not leave items outside the door during closed times.  All proceeds support the McKinleyville Library.

Kiwanis are collecting school supplies

From Tamara Clohessy: This is at least our 5th year of Kiwanis of McKinleyville collecting school supplies for all ages of McKinleyville students and schools. We are collecting now and they can contact me, Tamara Clohessy at 840-0569 or any other Kiwanis member to donate. We also will be in front of Kmart, as we have been the last few years on Saturday, Aug. 24 from 9 till noon. Folks can buy supplies to donate or drop us some cash. We supply needy kids and fill holes for needed supplies at our McKinleyville schools all year.

Piano concert at

Seventh-day Adventist Church

Brother and sister piano duo, Alicia and Matthew Dellen, will appear in McKinleyville on Wednesday, Aug. 7.

The church is located at  1200 Central Avenue on Bella Vista Hill just north of the Six Rivers Brewery. The concert begins at 7 p.m.concert.formckmatters

The Dellens perform sacred hymns enriched from their background in classical music.  Alicia and Matthew were blessed to have been taught and mentored by internationally known artist and performer, Dr. Tamara Orlovsky.  Her love and respect for the master composers and her insistence on the pure interpretation of their music has been embraced by Alicia and Matthew. They have also been blessed to have competed in and won concerto competitions and to have been invited to play with multiple orchestras. Alicia and Matthew Dellen offer a unique experience by performing solo and two piano duets, which provides a wonderful environment for the whole family.

There is no charge for admission. A freewill offering will be received.

  1. I skip the McK Library sale because it’s overpriced. Arcata just had its first no-price, by-donation-only book sale. They had their largest profit ever. It seems encouraging people to spend less money per book while buying lots of books is more profitable than charging a lot for books and having people buy very few. McKinleyville’s children’s books are especially overpriced. Are they aware there’s a thrift store in the same shopping center that sells kid’s books for 10 cents?
