Federal courthouse to be built in McK

Moser Properties, developers of the Airport Business Park in McKinleyville, announced last week that Humboldt County’s U.S. Magistrate Courthouse will soon be relocating to the Business Park. The U.S. Magistrate Courthouse is currently located at 5th and H streets in Eureka.

Steve Moser, owner of Moser Properties said, “We are pleased that the decision has been made to locate here. This was a 2-year process and involved detailed tailoring of the site on our part, to meet the very specific and demanding criteria required for a Federal Courthouse facility.”

Moser is working with a development team from Los Angeles that specializes in building and developing these types of governmental facilities throughout the country.

The General Services Administration reviewed a number of possible sites in Humboldt County. The Airport Business Park was selected because of its easy access to U.S. Highway 101, close proximity to the Arcata-Eureka Airport, and the final deciding factor – all of the parcels at the park are ready for construction, with all environmental permits already obtained.

Construction on the new Federal Courthouse is slated to begin within the next five months and be ready for occupancy in 2014. A number of Federal Agencies will be located in the new 23,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility.

The Airport Business Park is a 53 acre development and has available lots up to 12 acres in size. Currently an 84-unit Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites is located on site, in addition to other professional office buildings.
